Why you should only use positive, reward based training.
Think about what is best for your dog and your relationship when looking for a class or trainer. If a trainer uses harsh techniques, run a mile! If they say they are a Cross Trainer understand that means they are going to use punishment which could range from bullying to shock or prong collars! If they offer a residency, understand this means that you will have no idea what they are doing to your dog while they have them. Many dogs are left emotionally ruined and fearful which can often lead to aggressive behaviours and will certainly affect your relationship. Finding the right teacher for your dog is essential so ask lots of questions and even better, if you can observe them working.
Dogs are emotional beings, don't screw them up!
Dogs learn better if you treat them kindly, give them choices and give them a reason to do what you want. I only use positive, rewarded based training techniques.
Research into dog behaviour has shown that using harsh methods might teach your dog to do what you want, but it takes longer, can break the bond you have with your dog and can even lead to aggression. For example, did you know the number one cause of lead-aggression in dogs is due to owners jerking the lead?
I teach YOU to teach your dog. I help you understand the most effective way to get your dog to listen to your requests, and you will learn to do this through using positive techniques, being consistent, using rewards, showing compassion and having fun!
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that that ‘being soft’ will ruin your dog or make it a badly behaved adult. I will help you will learn how to create a more confident and social dog that everyone will admire, as well as a devoted friend for life.
I am fully insured for providing training and behavioural work with dogs.
